Liverpool fans have jumped onto Twitter to defend Virgil van Dijk, after the defender came under fire for his involvement in Germany’s second goal on Sunday evening.
Holland found themselves 2-0 down to the Germans after first-half goals from Leroy Sane and Serge Gnabry, but it was the latter whose strike had rival fans on Twitter blaming Van Dijk for not doing enough in preventing it.

The former Arsenal winger cut inside from the left flank, one-on-one with the Liverpool centre-back, before dropping his shoulder and firing the ball into the top right corner.
Given his practically imperious form over the last year, it was strange to see an attacker get the better of the former Celtic man – the fact it wasn’t a direct error just goes to show the high standards set by Van Dijk.
Naturally, the Liverpool fans on Twitter leapt to their record signing’s defence following the incident against Joachim Low’s side…
