Wolves have made a promising start to life in the Premier League under Nuno Espirito Santo.
The Midlands club are sat safely in mid-table after securing wins against the likes of West Ham, Burnley and Southampton. The Championship winners have invested heavily in their playing squad, but the Portuguese tactician still wants to add to his team. Reports suggest Nuno intends to add three new players to his ranks in the January transfer. As well as signing a striker, the manager is on the lookout for a new right-back.
The perfect addition to his squad could be Liverpool outcast – Nathaniel Clyne.
Valued at £18m by Transfermarkt, the former England international joined the Reds during Brendan Rodgers’ reign at the club after impressing in Southampton’s back four. Clyne instantly became a key player for Liverpool and was a mainstay in their defence even after Jurgen Klopp replaced the Northern Irishman. However, a long-term back injury allowed Trent Alexander-Arnold to stake his claim for a first-team berth, and the youngster hasn’t allowed Clyne a look in following his return from injury. After failing to make the substitutes bench since returning to fitness, his time at Anfield could be coming to an end.
The 27-year-old remains one of the league’s top defenders and has plenty of Premier League experience which could prove to be vital for Wolves in the long run. Clyne would add some stability to the Wolves back line and give Matt Doherty some much-needed competition. The defender is yet to hit his prime and moving to Molineux could give him the opportunity to force his way back into Gareth Southgate’s England setup.
Potentially available at a great price, Wolves would be foolish to overlook the Liverpool man.
