A second half Harry Kane penalty rescued a draw for Tottenham Hotspur against Arsenal at Wembley Stadium on Saturday.
The Gunners went ahead in the first half through Aaron Ramsey. Generally, though, Unai Emery’s side were happy to sit back and contain the hosts. For much of the game this strategy worked as Spurs lacked invention and penetration.
This lack of attacking verve was due, in part, to Mauricio Pochettino’s midfield selection. Moussa Sissoko and Victor Wanyama played at the base of the Spurs midfield and struggled to provide forward thrust. Wanyama, in particular, failed to ever get to grips with the game.
The 27-year-old was making only his second start of the Premier League season, having endured an injury-ravaged campaign so far. The 52-cap Kenya international was clearly out of sorts against Arsenal, which contributed to his side’s struggles.
After the match, plenty of Tottenham fans took to Twitter to give their verdict on the midfielder’s performance…
